Feng Shui: The Art of Achieving Wellness

Feng Shui: The Art of Achieving Wellness

Breanna Willeford, WHS Reporter

Feng Shui is a system of laws of orientation in relation to the flow of energy in Chinese thought. Feng Shui can be used to construct buildings, furnish homes, or choose what color to paint the walls inside a home. Feng Shui can include different element colors like water, fire, earth, metal, and wood. It is also used to furnish and arrange furniture, figuring where to put it to keep the positive energy in the household.

Water- dark blue, black
Fire- red
Metal- grey, whites, pastel colors
Wood- purple, green, and gold

According to Strutner, there are main rules to Feng Shui:

  • Never place your bed under a window
  • Never have doors on either side of your bed,
  • Get rid of your TV and all electronics in your bedroom,
  • Don’t let a mirror face your bed.

Are you tired of the old boring colors in your room? If so, the best colors to paint your bedroom are warm, rich colors like blues and creams to bring more positive vibes. All of these rules are so that the positive energy flows throughout your bedroom.

More things you can do to make your bedroom Feng Shui approved is to add artwork and things that interest you and make you happy, for example, if you like trees and bright colors then you could hang a painting of a bright tree. Your bedroom is supposed to be the most relaxing part of your living space. “Any images you hang on your bedroom walls should be inspiring, uplighting, or relaxing. One of the best places to hang such an image is on the wall opposite your bed so that you see it first thing when you wake up and last thing before you turn off the lights to go to sleep” (Wong).

Aside from your bedroom, you can use Feng Shui in your living room, bathroom, entryway, etc. Before you move around and arrange the furniture you should consider what actually goes on in these specific rooms and look at the traffic flow.

Feng Shui can interest people in different ways. For example, Feng Shui can be used for good fortune or it may be believed to cause happiness and good luck if you place furniture a certain way, or paint the walls a certain color. Feng Shui is used in TV shows like House Hunters, Love it or List it, and Property Brothers because it is very popular for designing.
