Lights

Lights

Kriesha Calderon, Guest Author

I wouldn’t call it a miracle

I would call it luck

My thoughts are blank and my mind is stuck

For some reason I feel guilt

Sometimes luck isn’t always the best

Some get to live and some put to rest

It could have been you

It could have been me

But all I know is that it wasn’t a dream

I look at the lights I cannot resist

And one of our classmates will surely be missed

Translator for the poem:

First stanza: This is about anyone who has got into a car accident it isn’t a miracle that you are still here it is luck.

Second stanza: Hearing that a classmate has passed because of an accident makes you feel guilt. Why? Because of luck. Wrong place wrong time and sometimes luck is not always the best. It blows my mind how some get to live and some put to rest and we have no control over it.

Third stanza: It could have been anyone. It still could be one of us. Love everyone around you and be here for one another.

Fourth stanza: It felt like a dream when some of us heard about it. But it wasn’t a dream. When I speak of the lights¨ I speak of all the people and cars that gathered at the high school to drive around Williston in memory. It was so beautiful I just couldn’t stop looking at the lights. The night was filled with love for sure.
