Vaping: a Major Problem

Daryl Andrada, WHS Reporter

Vape was invented to get a patent for a non-tobacco cigarette that was smokeless. The first vape was invented by Herbert Guilbert. It was a free nicotine vape but had produce a vapor that had a flavor that was designed to replace the smoke of tobacco. Vaping – which involves inhaling a mix typically made of nicotine, water, solvents and flavors – is seen as an alternative to smoking which can help you quit, but its safety is still not entirely known. Vaping is still bad for your health.

Nicotine is the primary agent in vape, and it’s highly addictive. Nicotine is a harmful substance. It can cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, and also narrow your arteries. Here in the US, Vaping is a huge issue, where this year there have been 450 reported cases of lung illness tied to vaping. There have been at least six deaths across 33 states. Health officials at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), who are responsible for protecting public health in the US, have been trying to identify what’s been causing these problems. There is a strong link between vaping and lung cancer. But sooner you quit, the quicker your body to recover and repair itself. Talk to your doctor about what smoking cessation program/tools would be best for you.
