The Haunted House
By Harmony Mattson, Portia Knutson, & Katlynn White
In the haunted house
The floors creak with every step
Oozing with spiders
Are you?
By Harmony Mattson, Portia Knutson, & Katlynn White
The bodies are dead
Their ghosts follow you with every step
Are you one of them?
Monsters
By Jessie Yeager
I look around me
I see nothing but the dark
I hear a faint breath…
Fog
My eyes are clouded
I rub them again, focus
I see two red eyes.
The Cat
By Luca Beretta
On a cold Halloween night
I’m walking alone down the street
Searching for houses with lights
To ask for a trick or treat.
First I hear its footsteps
Fast and light
I turn around and ready myself
Preparing for a potential fight.
Next enters its shadow
Large and narrow
I succumb to intimidation
A sturdy bullet now a brittle arrow.
Out of the darkness comes a black cat
Looking hungry, he needed something to eat
It came to me with a gentle purr
And I returned the favor giving him a tasty Halloween treat.
The Trick or Treat Spirit
By Emma Senderhauf & Olivia Squires
The monster that lives inside everybody,
Rises for Halloween only.
She lurks deep in your soul patiently,
And awakes from the delight of candy.
You better run, you better hide
For if she finds you, you will die.
But not from the fright that she provides,
Instead from happiness that opens inside.
She is not the monster that you may fright,
Her sharp teeth don’t even bite.
She is not the one that creeps in the shadows at night,
But is a smile at the front door around midnight.
She and I walk alone with our dreams.
Under this bright light, the doorbell rings.
“Trick or Treat” is the chant she sings,
The lady at the door hands us gummy rings.
The Trick or Treat Spirit is not so mean.
As I walk away from the scene,
The lady smiles and screams,
“May you have a happy, happy Halloween!”
