Has your pet ever run away?  Have you ever wondered what is done with pets that are homeless or lost? I myself was curious so I emailed Tamara from Mondak Animal Rescue with questions inquiring about the shelter being built just north of Williston. Construction is expected to be completely finished April 1st and their goal is to have it open by early summer.

Q) Will the shelter be a no-kill shelter?  

Tamara: We are considered a low kill shelter; I would like to note that since I became the director almost 4 years ago, we have not euthanized any dogs.

Q) What happens to the animals when there are no foster homes available?

Tamara: If we do not have any foster homes available then we are unable to do an owner surrender. Our priority is the local pound to assure the pets their who were unclaimed get a chance.

Q) What are your plans for covering any expenses such as food for the animals, building maintenance?

Tamara: FUNDRAISING!! Everything we do is based on fundraising and grants. If we do not have the funds then we are unable to continue to rescue so we try to have some sort of fundraising event once a month. Currently, we have our 2nd annual ALL FUR LOVE Gala dinner and live auction. We look to the community for their donations and support. The community we live in has been very supportive and has helped us place around 400 pets in the 2017 year into their forever homes. We make sure all pets are UTD on all vaccines and if they are at least 6 months old we spay/neuter the pets. Our vet expenses are what is our biggest expense, but by neutering/spaying, we are helping reduce the number of unwanted pets in the community.

In total, when this animal shelter opens up, my friend and I will be heading to the shelter to admire both the conditions of the brand new building and to see the animals that all deserve homes. Hopefully, they will get forever homes. It seems like a respectable place based on the information I received.
