The speech team went to Velva ND this last weekend. Speech and drama are voice-related activities to upgrade confidence, communication skills and presentation skills. Jade Nice shared some highlights from the Speech Meet in Velva last weekend:

What categories did you compete in?
My category was poetry. We have different categories we go into; I did two, poetry and serious interpretation. There is also humorous interpretation. Then you can do duo’s.

What was the poem you used?
The one I used was “To This Day” by Shane Koyczan.

How did you do?
The first time I used it (‘To This Day’), I went to finals and made second place out of 70-some kids.

Where did you rank?
My first round I ranked first; my second round I ranked third, but I didn’t make it to finals.

Who did you work with?
I had a humorous duo with Emma Bowles.

What was your favorite part of the whole thing?
I suppose the best part of the meet was socializing with the team, getting to know them, making friends.
