For my Art III class, our subject was “Self-Learners.” We were asked to practice with a medium that we didn’t necessarily use often, or ever.

I chose to use oil pastels because I had a set at home that I hadn’t used in years. I learned a lot about it, and most of my experience was quite frustrating.

For my final project with the medium, I chose to create a surrealistic portrait of a celestial being. It took a long time to work on this piece because I didn’t know a lot about the medium and I was indecisive about what to add or get rid off.

This project was really fun to do, and oil pastels are now my favorite medium.
