Del Español To The English School ! Part 2

Marta Cuartero, Reporter

My name is Marta Cuartero, I have been in the United States for 6 years and a half and I have been in Williston for 3 years. I am from Toledo, Spain.

I’ve been going to public school for 6 years now in the US, but before that, I went to a private Christian school in Toledo, Spain. The school there was way different, in Spain we didn’t have sports teams connected to the school like we do here. We can play soccer for fun at recess – which you get even if you were in 10th grade- or basketball but there weren’t actual teams.

We also had to wear uniforms, and the order would alternate if we wore our formal uniform, which would be a grey skirt with a white polo. A black sweater on top with black socks and black shoes that meant it was music day, so, we would have music class. During the P.E days, we wore our tracksuits which were a navy blue jacket with a white stripe across the chest and the logo of our school, a white shirt with the logo and then the navy blue sweats.

The way a school day would go for me is waking up, eating breakfast then school. It would be just like how it would be here, math, science, language arts. We would also have a religion class where we learned about Jesus and his life. When lunch came we got an hour break and we got to go home for an hour.

Overall the school system in both countries is really different. I prefer the school system in America just because you have way more choices and opportunities and you get to play sports here and you can choose your own classes.
