Do Teachers Assign Too Much Homework?

Do Teachers Assign Too Much Homework?

Daryl Andrada, WHS Reporter

When you get back home after school, How many homework do you have to do?  Is it good to have a lot of homework? Will it cause stress to you and your family? Homework is schoolwork that a student is required to do at home. Students have at least six homework in a day.

I asked 15 students the question, “how much homework is enough in a day?” 6 students said four homework a day is enough, 4 students say seven homework, 2 students say one, and 3 students say that we shouldn’t have any homework. The numbers are weird, but most of the students prefer to have 4 homework in a day. I think the number for me is pretty good.

There’s a reason that teachers assign homework to complete in the evening. Homework help students recall what they learn in the classroom and learn new things. It helps to improve critical skills like time management and problem-solving. Homework has been proven to increase academic achievement. Homework is an additional practice for students. Practice makes progress in your educational career. If students are studious and engaged, homework is an effective way to learn.

Homework can affect health, social life, and grades of a student. Homework is important to be successful, but too much of it may result in opposite effects. Students who spend too much time doing their homework are not always able to meet other needs. They don’t have the time to do whatever they want. They don’t have the bonding time with their family. They don’t have the time to communicate with their friends. Homework causes stress that may lead to anxiety. They will stop doing their homework, and this makes their grade low. If students spend all night doing their homework, they don’t get enough sleep. Lack of sleep may lead to a serious health problem.

Homework has a good and bad effect on us, it depends on how you deal with it. Doing homework makes you prepare for the future, but we can’t deny the fact that homework can also harm us. Let me ask you again, do teachers assign too much homework?
