Hey Coyotes here is a run down on what happened in the first semester. The first day of school the teachers rolled out the red carpet to welcome students back to the new year. Freshman had the commitment to graduate ceremony where Dr.Germundsen talked to them how it is very important to stay positive and work through those hard times. WHS had 14 German exchange students that attended and visited North Dakota for two weeks. We kicked off the years with our homecoming. All grades had the opportunity to build their own float for the parade. Sophomores won with their float. After the parade the football team had their game scoring 6-42. As always there was a dance afterward for the coyotes to enjoy.
In October WHS journalism did an amazing job recognizing our legends. There was a banquet which some of our WHS activities and sports teams helped serve at it. Powder puff may have been rescheduled a couple of times but the seniors got a three peat win! Of course Halloween was recognized at Williston High. Not to any of our surprise Williston had a big snowstorm in October, but it didn’t last that long. The WHS theater had their first play of the year which was Clue.
In November Close up started it strong with a 3 vs. 3 basketball tournament for all ages. Our amazing Cross Country team had the chance to attend the Souix Falls Nike regionals tournament. Another fun activity close up held was the Fall Formal, which had an amazing turn out. Our very own girls swim and dive team went to state in Bismarck, North Dakota. A wonderful tradition at Williston High School is Elks Youth Day. Mr. Mack does a great job setting it up every year for the seniors to experience an amazing tradition. The National Honors Society had their induction ceremony for juniors and seniors.
The last month of first semester, what a crazy fun, stressful month it is. Starting off first Williston high school lived up to their expectation of being true to the community and making a difference. WHS raised $3,000 on jersey day for coach Matt and his girlfriend after a tragic loss in a house fire. The Williston Drill team went to the Mandam invitational, bringing home a clean sweep. First in Pom, Jazz, and Hip Hop. The Jv team earned first in Jazz and Hip Hop, and third in Pom. Student council did their annual Christmas for kindness bake sale. Our SAD program was selling candy grams during the lunches. Friday December 8th WHS had their very first Holiday Around The World. . Welcoming students from different cultures with amazing food and traditions. The girls basketball team has started the year off strong winning 65-58 against Fargo south. Williston drill team went to another invite in Faro getting first in Jazz and Hip Hop and second in Pom. The JV team got first in Jazz and Hip Hop and second in Pom. Girls and boys hockey started up and on to a great season. Lastly every grade level has finals to complete and on to Christmas Break!
