Why do we now have three lunch periods? Does the menu change for each period?

I interviewed four students as well as Mrs. Larson, our assistant principal, to get their opinions about this new schedule.

  • Name: Breanna Willeford
  • Lunch period:  1st
  • Time: 11:18 a.m. to 11:48 a.m.

Q: How is the 3-lunch schedule?

A: Pretty good, just because I have 1st lunch.

Q: Any suggestions you have to the administration?

A: Make the lunches longer than 30 minutes.

Q: Would you like to be in a different lunch?

A: No, because I like being in 1st lunch.

  • Name: Infinity White
  • Lunch period: 2nd
  • Time: 12:08 p.m. to 12:38 p.m.

Q: How is the 3 lunch schedule going for you?

A:  Lunches seem to be more organized than they used to be, since it seems that they have less people than a crowded lunch room with more people  trying to get food and then running out (of food choices).

Q: What suggestions do you have for our administration about 3 lunches?                        A: Open the other section where the gym is.

Q: Would you prefer to be in another lunch?                                                          A: Yes, 3rd, because after lunch I would be able to go home.

  • Name:  Jahliyah Williams (no photo available)
  • Lunch period: 3rd
  • Time: 11:58 a.m. to 12:32 p.m.

Q: How is the 3 lunch schedule going for you?

A: Good, because having 3rd lunch is closer to the end of the day then the rest.

Q: Any suggestions?

A: Nope, no suggestions; everything’s good to me.

Q: Would you prefer to be in another lunch?

A: Nope, I like the one I’m in.

As I mentioned, I spoke with Assistant Principal Larson to get the administration’s point of view:

Q: What number of students eats lunch at WHS?

A: As of September 1st, there were 700 students that get school food.

Q: Which lunch serves the highest student count?

A: The first lunch appears to be the largest in the lunch room and serves the most lunches, but on paper it is not the biggest as far as students assigned. The second lunch is the lunch that has the largest number of students assigned.

Q: What improvements have you seen with the new lunch schedule?

A: There have been more places for people to sit, and the lines are much shorter. There is more food choices among the people.

Q: Do you see any areas that could be improved on?

A: It needs to be split evenly for around the time winter comes, and turning the other half where the gym is into a detention area.

Editor’s Note: Feedback received from staff and students indicates a possible shortage of food options for the final lunch period. The people waiting until 1:00 pm to eat would understandably be quite hungry! They deserve the same options as the others. How could this issue be resolved?
