Poetry For Kicks: Adrenaline Junkie

Cassandra Webb, WHS Reporter

I’m really into poetry and I thought what better thing to do than showcase “talent”. I have many things that I’ve written in the past year, and I’d like to share them with people.

Adrenaline Junkie

I get a sudden burst of happiness when I see you. It takes a second to register that it isn’t just all a dream, however, I know I’m perfectly conscious. It’s about as amazing as watching a sun being birthed and create wondrous new life. As it explodes at its fiery seam –letting in a whole fresh set of marvels to be discovered– it’s as jumbled as my mind with overflowing emotions.

The thing is, you don’t seem to realize this harsh control you have on me. You cannot see the fire in my eyes, nor the burning feeling that eats away at my skin to just tell you.

And I won’t let you because I’m afraid you won’t like what you see.

If I tell you and you don’t accept it by leaving me stranded, I might never get that surge in my heart, the cramping when it stops for a minuscule second but kicks back up like an old engine that hasn’t been started in decades. It’s an ache that I can never quench when I’m alone because you aren’t there to ‘start me up’ with your eyes or your beautiful voice. I want you to be there, to send this rush of adrenaline through my veins, my bones, and my everything.

You make me this adrenaline junkie that never wants to go to rehab.

But when I tell you all of these thoughts I keep trapped in my brain, would you still stay, and give me the rush I need?
