A new school year, a new sport!

With soccer emerging as a brand-new sport for WHS students, the formation of a team has caught the attention of many students. The recently established team prevailed with a 4 – 2 first game victory against Bismarck Legacy. Williston’s new soccer team proved that, even at its early stages, the program can succeed.

Michael Apolis, who is one of the players on the team, stated , “It’s great to finally have a soccer team here in Williston. I was happy knowing I could play it again.” Before moving to Williston, Michael played soccer back in England. He enjoys soccer as much as anyone on the team. Their desire for the sport led to the formation of this team and with hopes that all goes well, soccer could potentially become available for all grade levels.

When asked about how soccer will do in the future, head coach Ryan Stebbins replied with, “I think soccer is going to be a huge success here in Williston . . . I think it’s gonna thrive here, I think it’s already doing really well for the first season, and I think it’s just gonna keep growing.” With well over 30 kids ranging from 7th grade to seniors, the recently assembled team is beginning to show great progress! GO COYOTES!
