On April 8th of 2018 the CTE Junior and Senior crews will be making their way to Wahpeton, ND and Kentucky for the Life Skills USA Competition. Joe Lenard, Taylar Michael and Orian Fulks will be doing carpentry, while Alex Lund will be doing electrical, and Trey Champion is working on plumbing. As of right now they have just registered for the competition and are practicing on their projects. Mr. Davis has had other construction groups go into these competitions; his groups have managed to get awards in recent competitions. The awards were for plumbing and electrical a couple years back, and the group is hoping to get a carpentry award or at least get 3rd place in one of the challenges.

The state competition will be held in Wahpeton, ND.  That’s where the construction group will go first. After state, if they place they will go to nationals in Kentucky.  The group currently has been finishing up walls with other class periods and also practicing with the categories they have chosen. Mr. Davis and the group purchased materials from Menards (mostly plumbing materials).

I interviewed  Junior Alex Lund-Electrical, and Senior Taylar Michael- Carpentry. I asked the boys what they are looking forward to the most, if they had been in the competition before, and how many teams they will be competing against.

Taylar: “I expect someone to get hurt and not be able to compete, if I’m being honest. We all expect to place first and keep working on our projects.” For joke’s sake, Alex believes “Orian Fulks will do the least work.”
